Marchesa's Georgina Chapman is Collaborating With ...the NFL

Now here's a collaboration we didn't see coming: Marchesa's Georgina Chapman is designing a limited edition shirt for...the NFL, WWD is reporting. Say what? The shirt will debut during the NFL’s two weeks of kickoff festivities in New York around September 5. There's no word yet on how it will be priced--or what it will look like--however it will be interesting, to say the least, to see how the ultimate girlie-girl designer will translate her feminine, over-the-top aesthetic for the football crowd. The collaboration isn't the only way the NFL is upping it's fashion cred, either

Now here's a collaboration we didn't see coming: Marchesa's Georgina Chapman is designing a limited edition shirt for...the NFL. Say what?

According to WWD, the shirt will debut during the NFL’s two weeks of kickoff festivities in New York around September 5. There's no word yet on how it will be priced--or what it will look like--however it will be interesting, to say the least, to see how the ultimate girlie-girl designer will translate her feminine, over-the-top aesthetic for the football crowd.

The NFL's fashion push doesn't end there. The league has shot a new campaign, "It’s My Team," which will feature a handful of notable women--Melania Trump, Dancing With The Stars' Peta Murgatroyd, and Condoleezza Rice(!?), to name a few--decked out in an assortment of NFL and designer gear. The campaign was styled by Tiina Laakkonen and shot by Daniel Jackson, both of whom have a high fashion background, and it will appear in fashion and lifestyle magazines come August.

And the new push isn't just about fashion. It's about girl power, okay?

"We want to show that you can be a fan by what you wear to work, going to the gym or out at night with girlfriends," the NFL’s director of apparel, Rhiannon Madden, said. "It’s also a message of empowerment. It’s your team--not your guy’s team."

Do you think the NFL's new revamp will manage to rein in the fashion crowd?
