“I think they could be a little bit more well groomed-—if you know what well groomed is, you just take a look in the mirror. Their hair doesn’t look neat, they look like they are all messed up. I don’t think messy is pretty, I think they should study themselves a little more and not wear something that’s in fashion because it’s in fashion. And you see some enormous young women wearing the skimpiest clothing and it really looks dreadful.”
–Iris Apfel on what changes she’d like to see in young people’s style today, when we caught up with the eternally chic style icon after her “Good Taste/Bad Taste” conversation with Tavi Gevinson at the Met last night.
At 90-years-old, Apfel has proven that amazing style and success know no age limit, recently launching both a successful makeup collaboration with MAC and her own line of exotic handbags.
So listen to Auntie Iris, kids: Always keep a hairbrush handy, and if the clothes don’t fit–well, just don’t wear ‘em.
