Most girls would be ecstatic to wear sky-high Louboutins and Manolos– but not Kristen Stewart, who always acts a little bit too keen to kick ‘em off. It seems like most of the time, K.Stew can’t even wait ’til the end of an event. And what’s her comfort shoe of choice? Not ballet flats. Not even last season’s smoking slippers. No, Miss Stewart simply prefers sneakers–ratty, worn-in Nikes and Chucks. Sometimes she’ll even get a little crazy and slip on some checkered Vans. That’s right: No. Laces. Necessary.

But recently, K-Stew–that trickster!–fooled us all into thinking she’d graduated to grown-up heels only. During her Cannes red carpet run, there was nary a rubber sole in sight. We were proud. No–elated! But also a little worried about where our girl’s ‘independent spirit’ had gone. Could it be in the back of her closet with her old smelly sneaks? Had she tired of carrying an extra backpack everywhere she went? Were her days of comfortable sole-searching gone for good?

Last night’s MTV Movie Awards once again saw Kristen donning some sassy stilettos. But alas, the teetering proved too treacherous–and at the last minute, the trainers came out of the trenches. Just like Kristen’s strained arches, we felt relieved. Almost as relieved as K-Stew must have been after she unsuccessfully tried to get Charlize Theron to join her onstage to present an award. Because that was pretty cringeworthy.
