While we got a sneak peek at the logo last week (when the under construction YSL store in SoHo revealed the new logo on its boarded up walls, which were promptly covered by some poster spam), YSL just quietly posted the official new “Saint Laurent Paris” logo on its Facebook page today. And as The Cut pointed out, there is already some serious hating going on. Like even more hate than anything Lana Del Rey has ever done.
The logo, shown on a black box, demonstrates some font restraint and actually looks pretty classy, if a tad boring. However, despite the fact that this logo is supposed to evoke the Saint Laurent of the 1960s (when Yves Saint Laurent launched ready-to-wear under the name “Saint Laurent Rive Gauche”), the monogram lovers are having none of it. A sampling of the Facebook ire:
Hedi Slimane’s Pandora’s boxing [Ed. note: Clever.]
an act of disrespect HOW DARE YOU !!!
Where is Yves? Didnt u have Y everywhere on ur merchandise?? Saint Laurent sounds more like a patisserie/cafe…
This name change is stupid. It looks like a knock off.
The flip side:
You GUYS are all wrong…this was the Name when yves started his house originally, it was only once the company got sold out that they started licensing the name and eventually called it Yves Saint Laurent, but the original name was Saint Laurent ‘rive gauche’ named by the Man himself!!
about time. ysl been supercrap lately
It goes on and on. We are giving Hedi Slimane the benefit of the doubt right now, and are looking forward to seeing his collection this fall.
