In publishing, September is sort of like Final Exams: Each magazine is given a grade–in the form of ad pages–and that number is generally indicative of how well the mag fared all year, and what direction it’ll move in next year.
After years of thinner, less ad-filled September issues (thank you recession!), magazines’ ad pages are starting to pick up. Some titles are even boasting a record-breaking amount of ad pages and September will bring their biggest issues ever. Other titles weren’t so lucky.
