A few weeks ago, WWD reported that Jessica Chastain had nabbed Vanity Fair's coveted September cover. Well, turns out it was only half right.
Chastain is on the cover but so, too, is Kate Middleton, according to the magazine's website. Vanity Fair clearly wanted to hedge its bets by opting for an actress (to appeal to Hollywood fanatics) as well as the Duchess (to appeal to Royal fanatics and a more global audience). It's a smart move, and we bet it'll pay off when newsstand numbers start rolling in.
While Kate didn't pose or do an interview for Vanity Fair's cover, the magazine did manage to scrape together a story based off of quotes from Royal friends, which promises to be a "blockbuster piece on Kate’s married life." Among some of the shocking revelations? Kate and Will like to have DVD marathons (OMG!!!), they own a sausage maker (OMFG!!!), and she's interested in interior design. The magazine also states that the "Duchess’s schedule requires up to five clothing changes per day." Whoa.
K.Midd and Chastain are also, not incidentally, honored with the top two spots on Vanity Fair's much-anticipated 2012 International Best Dressed list, which also broke online today. Middleton got the #1 spot (duh), Chastain was #2--from there on, there were a few surprises. Jay-Z and Tom Brady both got mentions--but their fashionable wives got snubbed. Another notable omission was First Lady Michelle Obama--and for that matter, President Obama himself. Besides those missing, a few honorees were slightly puzzling while others were long-overdue.
