Despite the fact that Kirna Zabete for Target doesn't hit stores until September 9, we're already quite familiar with the collection. In fact, perhaps too familiar.

An email tipster pointed out that the puffed-up pucker design bears a strikingly similar resemblance to an already-existing enamel ring made by UK-based accessories designer Solange Azagury-Partridge.

Lips aren't an uncommon theme in fashion--the motif had a particular resurgence recently thanks to the Schiaparelli/Prada iconic lippy print overlap at the Impossible Conversations exhibit at the Met. But the design of Azagury-Partridge's 'Hotlips' ring (which has actually been on permanent display at London's Victoria & Albert Museum since '08) is distinct and unmistakeable--and so, too, is the fact that someone involved in the KZ x Target camp was perhaps a little too inspired by it.

Of course, the main difference here is price point. A silver and enamel Solange Azagury-Partridge bobble will set you back around $1,650, whereas all the accessories in the KZ x Target line will be priced under $20 a pop. We've reached out to Kirna Zabete x Target's PR for comment and are waiting to hear back.

So what do you think? Are the striking similarities between Solange Azagury-Partridge's ring and the Kirna Zabete for Target bracelet too close for comfort or purely coincidental?

Update: It looks like Target's lips aren't sealed after all! The retailer got back to us with this statement:

“Jewelry and accessory items featuring lips are one of the fall season’s hottest trends. The Kirna Zabête at Target lips jewelry reflects the designers’ fun and glam style as seen throughout the apparel and accessories pieces in the collection. Target respects the intellectual property rights of all designers and it is never our intention to infringe upon the rights of others.”

It's certainly true that lip prints are everywhere this season, including the entire Kirna Zabête x Target collection (not just the accessories). So maybe this really is just a case of coincidental design?
