The Clothes: Anna Sui is always experimenting with the intersection of good girl and bad girl, and for Spring 2013 she took traditional French emblems (toile, pearl embellishment, Marie-Antoinette blue) and mixed in notes from the 1970s punk scene in New York like ripped fishnet tops, jumpsuits, and blue and red plaids. If models wore a dress, they also wore leggings or trousers under it–the Anna Sui girl is always a lady. There were denim and leather moto jackets, fit-and-flare style party dresses, and breezy separates, so that every girl could find a piece to love. By the looks of the dedicated hoards of girls in the audience, I’d say the collection was a hit.
The Hair & Makeup: Models wore pieces of pink, blue, or lilac hair in the front of their heads, like a very messy set of bangs, that was then brushed into a high ponytail. Cat eyes were colored to match each girl’s hairpiece, while the rest of the face was sweet and bare.
The Soundtrack: “I Wanna be Sedated” by The Ramones and similar punk jams plus a few French musical tunes thrown in for good measure.
The Vibe: Crowded fangirl scene. Everyone loves Anna Sui.
