Beyoncé's Red Oscar de la Renta Dress Looks Familiar

Mainly just to have an excuse to post this amazing photo, we've confirmed with the label's PR that radiant-as-ever Beyonce was wearing Oscar de la Renta to meet the POTUS earlier this week. But was it the right choice?

Mainly just to have an excuse to post this amazing photo, we've confirmed with the label's PR that radiant-as-ever Beyonce was wearing Oscar de la Renta to meet the POTUS earlier this week. The dress is a "carnation raw wool jersey ¾ sleeve dress" from de la Renta's 2013 resort collection, as is the enamel flower buckle belt.

The photo is one of few to emerge from the $40,000 per plate Obama fundraising dinner Beyoncé and Jay-Z hosted at Jay-Z's 40/40 club in NYC Tuesday night--Barack Obama tweeted the photo ("A couple supporters in a New York state of mind last night" read the tweet), which is also on Beyoncé's website.

While we're sure the first lady of hip hop was not inspired by the Republican Presidential candidate's wife, Ann Romney also wore red Oscar de la Renta recently--to deliver her speech at the Republican National Convention, where red tends to be a pretty prominent color. In fact, the belt seems to be identical.

Many outlets (including us) have pointed out that Michelle Obama has yet to wear ODLR in public, and that de la Renta has criticized some of the FLOTUS's outfit choices. Jezebel went so far as to call Romney's RNC look "a nice fuck you to Michelle Obama."

So was ODLR the wrong choice for Beyoncé on this particular night? We doubt any of the above went into her decision-making process, so, bottom line: she looks good, as do Jay-Z and Obama (whom WWD recently gave a better grade than Mitt Romney in a fashion face-off) and we're obsessed with that photo.
