Besides the now-ubiquitous blue eye makeup, a mini-trend of hot pink eyes, and a few alien-esque theatrical looks, eyes on the runway this season have been pretty darn boring--until Pat McGrath came along at Dior and bedazzled the heck out of everyone. While we've been seeing phrases like "sexy minimalism" thrown around to describe Raf Simons' clothes at Dior, there was nothing minimal about the eye makeup.
Pat McGrath, who's done the makeup for Dior for many seasons, told Style.com that Raf's girl "loves makeup." We love that she loves makeup, because so do we. For his first ever ready-to-wear show for Dior, McGrath really pulled out all the stops. In a design she called the "techno butterfly," every single model (55 in total) got her own unique eye look.
McGrath used dozens of individual Swarovski crystals on each model to produce a brilliant mix of texture and color. To get the saturated color (and yes, there was a lot of blue), she used "creams topped with shadows" across the lids. According to Style.com, she had to start at 8:30am to get all the girls ready for a 2:30 pm show.
Before you rule this out as a look that should be relegated to the runway, we think a few strategically placed crystals at the corner of the eye could be so chic. Especially if you can snag a Dior frock to go with it.
