Here’s What Went Down at Raf Simons’s Debut Ready-to-Wear Show for Dior

The Clothes: Christina Binkley tweeted: “For his debut RTW collection for Dior, Raf Simons says he’s exploring ‘themes of liberation’ for the house AND himself.”

With that as the jumping off point, the show opened with all-black looks–jackets, nipped in waists, short skirts. The color came quickly, on metallic iridescent organza and duchesse silk. Then came the ball gown shape that we saw at the couture show–this time the gowns had printed skirts. Dior was helpfully live tweeting about the looks:
“Hidden colours in the drapes of this series of dresses, like a liberation of the feminine silhouette.” Layering was definitely a theme–ruffles, draping, and multi-tiered skirts.
