There are only a few people in this world who are so iconic, all you need to say is their first name, and everyone knows who you’re talking about. Whitney. Madonna. Jesus. Iman. Last night, the legendary supermodel fêted the launch of her new fashion and lifestyle website, Destination IMAN (yes, that’s IMAN in all caps) along with a host of fashion notables. The guest list boasted names like Simon Doonan, singer Estelle, Jay Manuel, Rachel Zoe, Joan Smalls (more on her later), and more.
Iman happily chatted away, snapping flawless photo after flawless photo with each of her famous friends. And when I say that, I really mean it. Every. Single. Shot. she took was perfect. I was in awe. It was like watching Michael Jackson record Thriller or listening to Beyoncé sing in the shower. I managed to pull myself together in the presence of greatness to ask Iman a few questions about her new venture, her fashion week nightmare, and (of course), pose for a decidedly feahce photo.
Fashionista: So how was Destination Iman Born?
Iman: Because I never had a website. The only website I’d ever had was Iman Cosmetics. I’m 57 years old, I’ve been in the business for 35 years. I thought it was time to do something personal about housing all my brands: Iman Cosmetics, Global Chic, Iman Home, my fabrics. But then I thought I had a lot of me, me, me, so I thought, how about we make it something more exciting and better than that?
What’s your dream destination, and who would you bring along with you?
Wow. Everybody in this room!
Sounds like a party! If you had to fight to the death for a beauty product, which would it be?
Oh! SK-II Skin Signature 3D Refining Mask.
Do you have any Fashion Week nightmares from back in the day?
Yeah, leaving Studio 54 at 6am, getting home, taking a quick shower, and getting to the show late. I just made it to the final exit.
They didn’t start without you?
They did? They played you!
The show’s gotta go on!
What year was this?
Uh, late 70s?
Who were you walking for?
I can’t remember that far. I look good, but I can’t remember that far!
