Yesterday afternoon, we stopped by the Derek Lam boutique on Crosby (10 Crosby to be exact) to peep the spring collection of Derek Lam's year-old diffusion line in person. We arrived to some fun surprises.

Surprise number one: Handbags! Fans of Derek Lam's coveted (and pricey) handbags now have some equally chic lower-priced options including totes, messenger bags, clutches and more. The first delivery will be in January/February and they start at a reasonable $295.

Surprise number two: Emily Weiss! Not in person, but we got a sneak peek at the label's spring 2013 look book and it stars the Into the Gloss blogger. Lam felt Weiss's "modern attitude and charisma" represented the 10 Crosby girl perfectly, so she not only modeled the clothes, but also styled them in a way that stayed true to her classic, easygoing aesthetic.

When we grabbed Emily on the phone she said it was just an easy fit. "I used to work with Elissa Santisi who styles Derek's shows so I've known him for years. I think it's cool that I get to work with him on his contemporary line, it's sort of all in the family...it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside."

As for the clothes: 10 Crosby still has that cool, quirky, relaxed vibe--this time with a hint of the wild west. We like. Emily's favorites are the white blouse with the red ultra suede pattern (because you can wash it, she says), the striped drapey blouse (we want that one too) and the printed jeans.
