Karlie Kloss Dishes About her New House of Style Gig

Backstage at Jason Wu, one particular model was stalked by photographers and microphone-clutching media people more than any of the other catwalkers: Karlie Kloss. Kloss, who was just announced as the new co-host of MTV's House of Style with Joan Smalls, is definitely the model-of-the moment. She couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating, so in between her hair and makeup sessions we caught up with the leggy beauty to talk about her new hosting gig.

Fashionista: How long have you been keeping your new MTV House of Style job a secret? Karlie Kloss:
I found out a few weeks ago. It’s been hard to keep it a secret! I’m so excited to be a part of it--we had to wait 'til last night [at the VMAs] to announce it. I’ve been brainstorming ideas for the show and who we’re going to bring on. It’s definitely going to be a new thing for me. I’m not used to talking!

Are you nervous about that? I’m excited for it! It’ll be a new opportunity. Joan and I both--in our day-to-day job--we don’t normally have a voice, we don't normally get to have something to say. MTV is an incredible platform that reaches so many people throughout the world.

So what will the show be like? It’s going to be primarily web-driven. Which is awesome because that’s kind of the way the world works today. People don’t sit at home and wait for their show--they watch it on DVR, they watch it online at their own convenience.

Have you ever met Cindy Crawford? I’ve never met Cindy. So that’s one thing that Joan and I were saying. We have to get pointers from her. She should be our first interview! She wasn’t much older than us when she hosted it.

Who would be your dream interview? I would love to interview Coco Chanel. That would be amazing, if we’re talking dreams. There is so much young talent in the industry, like Jason Wu. [We want] to highlight people from all over the industry--designers, makeup artists, models, musicians. Fashion inspires people all over the world in their daily lives. This show is our chance to show people who might not have access, what’s happening in the fashion world.
