The Clothes: When you walk into a Missoni show you’re usually expecting to be blown away by knits in kaleidescopic colors–so it was a little surprising when Angela Missoni opened her Spring 2013 with a series of all-white looks. The runway eventually eased into color, with white looks tinged with pink and orangey ombre, as if they’d been dip-dyed. The knits retained the ombre effect and they were (unsurprisingly) some of my favorite pieces in the collection–gorgeous, open knit cardigans and frocks in springtime corals and blues. The concept of layering–something Missoni always does well–was translated to eveningwear with swaths of semi-sheer chiffon and crochet layered over top of more form-fitting pieces, including something that looked like a printed one-piece bathing suit.
What the Line Sheet Said: “An evanescent look as implacable as the refraction of light, an optical illusion, a fluorescent beam…The silhouette is that of a Japanese ‘anime’ heroine. A creature from an animated movie who walks and moves in zero gravity wearing pure, linear pieces, enriched with precious intarsia work, that stand out in space and creatie their own aura…The Missoni Summer 2013 woman is transformed into a presence that radiates energy, a gentle creature who is also strong and decisive, bewitchingly inescapable: a mysterious intergalatic tourist who has landed on our planet.”
Hair & Makeup: Hair was matted at the roots, which we suppose was a play on last season’s wet hair look, but which, in reality, looked a lot like greasy, unwashed hair. Models had a pinky-orange, neon pout–the shade of which I’m dying to try now.
The Soundtrack: Spun by Frederic Sanchez, the first song that came on was a man saying ‘I love you’ and a woman answering ‘I know’
The Vibe: Held at a slightly out-of-the-way venue, the mood was calm.
The Front Row: Theophilus London, Mia Morretti, Margherita Missoni
Celebrity We’d Most Like to See Wearing It: Margherita Missoni, Kate Hudson
WTF Moment: Um, did you read the line sheet?
