The Clothes: Prabal Gurung has really started to settle in to an identifiable aesthetic with this latest collection. It’s beautiful cocktail wear–jackets with tails, drop waist dresses with ruffled tulle skirts, airy tunics–but with a dark streetwise edge. (For evidence of that dark side see the dripping blood manicures the models sported.) There were neoprene sweatshirts, low-slung pants and filmy slinky layering tanks mixed in with the party dresses.
The Hair & Makeup: It’s only day three and already there’s an obvious 90s beauty trend happening for spring. Paul Hanlon (for Schwarzkopf) went for 90s meets Sissy Spacek hair–think a middle part, super flat and close to the head on the top, and a bit wavy and messy on the bottom–sort of like the girls had been wearing a hat all day and just took it off. For the face, Charlotte Tilbury (for MAC) gave the models a look that was colorless and “haunting.” Faces were contoured and highlighted on the cheeks, but matte down the middle of the face. And–you heard it hear first–Tilbury thinks very pale faces are going to be a trend for spring. The nails, by Tracylee (for Sally Hansen) were also pretty haunting–each girl had bare nail beds with dark red “blood drops” on the tips.
The Soundtrack: Thunder-y (how appropriate) by Sebastien Perrin.
The Vibe: Dark, smokey, steamy, sweaty.
