The Clothes: This was Simone Rocha’s third season on the runway at LFW, but she already has tons of buzz and a waiting list for her shoes. Pretty sure that she’ll have buyers galore for this ultra cute grown-up school girl collection. Think embroidered dresses with prim, tidy collars, “overblown lace daisies,” shiny patent leather, and open weave knits. The palette was primarily white and cream, but a few neon pieces were tossed in. Cuts were either slim to the body–sheath dresses and skinny pants–or really voluminous. A-line dresses and baby doll swing coats were layered over the skinny pants. All the texture mixing really worked in this cohesive collection. And Rocha is continuing to make her signature perspex heel brogues, this time with a bit of an elevated platform in gold metallic, white and black. We saw so many fangirls in the audience wearing Rocha’s shoe.
What the Line Sheets Said: “The season takes influence form a series of photographs of teenagers kissing by Ed Templeton, and Cy Twombley’s [sic] sculptures, plaster work cakes smudged with green and pink, it is a reflection on youth, in all its purity and unruliness.”
The Hair and Makeup: Short, blunt frizzy bangs in front and a rat’s nest in serious need of some hair oil tied in a knot in the back. Some models were wearing halo-like headbands. Natural, angelic faces.
The Vibe: Held at Somerset House, the entrance to the runway was flanked by two overgrown hedges that would not be out of place in an English garden.
The Soundtrack: Buzzy indie guitar rock.
The Front Row: Alexa Chung, which definitely means Rocha is a designer to watch.
Celeb We’d Like to See Wearing It: Elle Fanning, Hailee Steinfeld, and all the other baby fashionistas.
