The Clothes: For their spring 2013 show, Versus did the unthinkable: They started exactly on time. So on time that, upon arriving just 15 minutes after the scheduled show time, we found that we had already missed the show and Beth Ditto was already performing. (Yes it’s true, we lingered maybe too long at dinner, but the food was just too good, and let me tell you, the Italians do not understand rushing at mealtimes). Anyway, even though we didn’t see the collection IRL, it was easy to tell from people’s reactions that it had been a hit. “I’m sorry to tell you,” Suzy Menkes said, feeling our pain at missing the show. “But it was very, very good.” After having a gander at the photos: We’d have to agree. The color palette-hot pink, bright yellow, blue–felt fresh and young. The knitwear, in particular, had been expertly crafted: Sweaters, vests and dresses woven with rainbow colored yarn, creating a chain-like pattern, which was echoed in the accessories. Those and the wallpaper shirt-and-pants combo are bound to make for street style fodder soon.
The Hair & Makeup: Hair pulled back sleekly, and blue eyeshadow.
The Soundtrack: Beth Ditto
The Vibe: When we arrived it was a crazy shit show. Several big-name editors could not get in because they did not have the physical invites, and the American press was not at the door. Two stern-looking Italian men literally pushed people from getting any closer to the gets. Inside, Beth Ditto was getting the party going to a raucous crowd, even bumping hips with Donatella Versace at one point on stage.
