Shop the Beauty Trend: In-Your-Face Orange Lips

L-->R: Mara Hoffman, Paul Smith, J.Crew, Richard Nicoll

We’re almost at the end of the spring 2013 runway season, and while a couple of rather strange beauty trends emerged early out of New York—we’re looking right at you, conjunctivitis pink eyes and neon blue shadow–we also started to notice a decidedly much more wearable trend towards the end of the week that actually ended up going nuclear across the pond in London: vibrant orange lipstick.

Think of it as the anti-but-still-related red—it has that head-turning, showstopping, I’m-sexy-as-all-hell feeling that comes along with classic cherry, only jus d’orange lips have that added dash of fun and a healthy dose of Vitamin C that screams I’m-perfect-for-summer.

And there’s tons of ways to wear it. Punchy pop art orange pouts were shown at Richard Nicoll, but you can make it much more muted by blotting it down, like what we saw at Louise Gray. For a fun, funky twist on colorblocking, outline your lips in shocking pink and fill in the center with tangerine, like Andrew Gallimore for MAC Cosmetics did at Holly Fulton. Or simply slick a layer of high-shine gloss on top, like at Mara Hoffman. Not into glossy? Go for matte in-your-face color, like at Michael Van Der Ham, Paul Smith, and J.Crew.
