Hula Hoop Bags and Kitschy Coco Sunglasses at Chanel

Designers have been showing a delightfully wacky, charming, and surprising array of shoes and accessories for spring (see: Prada and Celine for the more extreme examples). Karl Lagerfeld continued the streak this morning at Chanel’s spring show, sending a bag down the runway that just might be the biggest Chanel bag ever, and was possibly made of hula hoops.

(We shudder to think of the price if that thing goes retail.)

The other accessories were pretty whimsical, too. The pearls were the size of gumballs--and sometimes ping pong balls--and they were shown as huge chokers and bib necklaces, not to mention the single enormous pearl bracelets. The bags looked like toys--primary-color-blocked chain handle bags, boxy bright green clutches, along with bags that looked like they were framed out of hula hoops (there were some reasonably sized versions). Big girls need things to play with too, right?

Also very charming: The sunglasses that featured a silhouette of Coco Chanel herself sticking up from the top rim of one side. She’s even wearing pearls. Can you say street style fodder?
