Chanel’s Spring 2013 Show Blows Us Away

The Clothes: We’ve already gushed about the kooky awesome accessories. Now about the actual clothes.

This season everyone is talking about designers at old storied maisons being able to take the house codes, move them forward, and still maintain commercial success. Karl Lagerfeld’s really good at this. This season he updated the little black jacket to make it a bit more voluminous around the shoulders a la Balenciaga, or he cropped it and put an oversized peter pan collar on it, and dyed it in bold colorways (bright reds and blues). Tweeds got the bold color treatment too–and it’s nice to see some color on the runway after a month of black and white domination.

I was undecided about those sheer numbers around look 60, with the fluffy leaf appliques around cuffs and hems–they seemed a bit over the top–but the white floral embroidered numbers that closed the show were just gorgeous.
