Despite keeping a relatively low profile (or perhaps, because of it) Narciso Rodriguez and his sleek, minimalist designs, have become a favorite among A-list celebrities like Michelle Obama, Claire Danes and Katie Holmes. So it was no surprise that last night's event feteing Rodriguez's new collection for Kohl's (set to hit stores November 7), brought out the stars.
Katie Holmes, Julianna Margulies, Emma Roberts, and a slew of high-profile models and editors (many of them clad in Narciso Rodriguez for Kohl's), stepped out to celebrate the new line at a cocktail-filled soiree at the IAC building in New York.
We grabbed a few moments with Emma Roberts (looking gorg in a Narciso Rodriguez for Kohl's color block number) to chat dream collaborations, future wedding dresses and what she really thought about her famous aunt Julia's Oscar gown.
What is it about Narciso's aesthetic that you love so much? I just like that it's really girly and at the same time chic. I think this line is great because all the dresses you can really dress them up or dress them down. Which is great because his regular designs are very formal.
Any specific pieces you're planning on buying? I'm trying to get my hands on those pajama pants! I want them. I saw Michelle Williams wearing them in a magazine and I was like I need to get a pair of those immediately.
Narciso very famously designed Carolyn Bessette's wedding dress, and nowadays celebrity wedding dresses are perhaps even more important than ever. Have you given any thought to what kind of dress you might like to wear on your big day (not that that's anytime soon)? Yeah who knows when I'll be getting married! No but you know what, [a style that's] not strapless because there's nothing worse than pulling up a strapless dress. I don't want to be hiking up my dress all night, so just anything not strapless.
Who would be your dream wedding dress designer? Well you just said it: Narciso is famous for it! I can't say anyone else now, so we'll leave it at that.
Would you ever want to design your own line? I would love to, yeah. I love fashion, I love designing. I'd love to do something with Opening Ceremony, like Chloe Sevigny did. Because I'm obsessed with that line, like I bought so many pieces. That's the kind of thing I want to do, something maybe a little more quirky.
Did your aunt Julia [Roberts] ever pass along any beauty or style tips to you when you were younger? Um, not really. I always love the way she looks and that's inspiring. I remember I was with her when she picked out her [Valentino] Oscar dress and I was like 'that's so beautiful' but I actually had called it a skunk dress. And everyone was laughing because they're like 'Emma, do you know who designed this dress?' And I was like, 'no it's beautiful but...c'mon, skunk.' [laughs] And everyone was laughing.
Well you were ten at the time so I think you can be forgiven. Talk about an awesome introduction into the high fashion world! Totally. I love [Julia's] clothes, I think they're so beautiful.
No doubt Emma is working on a designer-filled wardrobe to rival her aunt's as we speak!
