The ceiling opening up.
The Vibe:
It was dark inside. Really dark. The anticipation was palpable. What was Hedi Slimane up to with this stark black box and these paneled ceilings? This couldn’t be it, right?
It wasn’t it. The ceiling panels slowly parted as a light show played out along the black walls set to pulsating music by Daft Punk. Giant speakers lowered from the ceiling through the parted panels as the bass got louder and louder, vibrating through the space. Was this the start of a fashion show or a rock concert?
A bit of both perhaps. The rock concert proceeded a rock and roll inspired collection.
The show music was fucking fantastic–American blues legend Junior Kimbrough’s “I Gotta Try You Girl” edited by Daft Punk. It truly captured the mood and the models looked awesome walking to it.
The show notes (at left) were blank, save for one line: A Pierre. That would be Pierre Bergé, of course, Yves Saint Laurent’s long-time partner and co-founder of the label. A sweet touch.
