How the Fashion Industry Prepped for Hurricane Sandy

Nora Crotty

“Everyone knows it’s windy! My celebration of Sandy is mostly on the practical side, with the addition of some entertainment by way of The Association’s fitting 1967 hit “Windy” on a constant YouTube rotation. After my weekend at home in Boston, my mother stocked up my rolly suitcase with two types of batteries and a tiny flashlight, which I may have already misplaced in my haphazard unpacking (and don’t worry, the L train definitely stopped running last night before I made it back to BK).

My favorite hurricane accessory thus far? Without a doubt, an old turquoise hand towel splattered with fake blood that my roommate artfully MacGyvered into a Sandy shield of sorts, patching up my bedroom window which I’ve just today learnt may be permanently agape. Next would be my cozy thick American Apparel knee socks. Post workday, I plan to immerse myself in Season 2 Disc 3 of Sex and the City with hopes of better understanding the mysterious men of Manhattan via Carrie and co. Then I’ll snug with my gerbs. Cheers, Sandy!”
