In a recent interview with People, Rosie O’Donnell compared future Miss Universe Honey Boo Boo (aka Alana Thompson) to the ultimate child star of the last century, Shirley Temple. “She has a presence and an intellect that goes way beyond her years,” O’Donnell glowed, before offering to buy HBB’s family a new house (I knew I should’ve worked harder at Junior Miss!).

And she’s not the only one who’s noticed the startling similarities between Honey Boo Boo and the OG Curly Top: Just last month, Simon Doonan told Fashion Week Daily that the Toddlers in Tiaras spin-off success was “today’s Shirley Temple.”

With these thoroughly intriguing theories in mind, we decided to do a little investigating. Just how alike could these lovable, talented, adorable tots possibly be? What we found was, in a word, astonishing. Had these little ladies not been born, oh, 77 years apart, they could’ve easily starred in Hollywood’s next attempt at The Parent Trap–without any of that special effects mumbo jumbo. It’s a shame, really.
