Scarlett, Rooney, Keira and More Cover W

For its November issue, W is celebrating its 40th anniversary with four special oversized covers–each of which pays tribute to one decade in the magazine’s history.

Shot by Steven Meisel and styled by Edward Enninful, the covers and corresponding editorial feature Rooney Mara, Mia Wasikowska, Scarlett Johansson, and Keira Knightley all made up to look like they just stepped out of the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s and Aughts, respectively. The actresses were also asked to give their thoughts on the decades they were representing–which is pretty funny in the case of a ’70s-style Rooney Mara who was born five years after that decade concluded.

Anyway, while you’ll have to wait until October 23rd to snag a copy of the issue, W just released the four cover stories online.

Click through to see Rooney, Mia, Keira and Scarlett get the throwback treatment–and read what each had to say about her decade, including Keira’s assertion that skinny jeans were created to make you feel bad about yourself, and Scarlett’s hatred of turtlenecks.
