Should Jennifer Lopez Not Have Worn Red to Anna Wintour's Obama Dinner in Paris?

J.Lo took a statement-making cue from Beyoncé and wore a hot red dress to an Obama fundraiser. But was she really trying to make a statement other than looking really hot? Probably not.

Anna Wintour's fashion week schedule and political fundraising schedule overlapped once again last night when she held a private dinner in Paris to raise money for the Obama Victory Fund.

A-listers in attendence at La Maison 8, which once housed Kenzo Takada's former home according to WWD, included Scarlett Johansson, Kanye West, Stella McCartney, Mick Jagger and Jennifer Lopez, whose bold red dress is already stirring up a bit of controversy.

A few blogs and Tweeters have criticized J.Lo for wearing red, a color typically associated with the Republican party, to an event to support a democratic candidate. The dress has been identified by Fashion Bomb as Hakaan, so maybe she'd intended to wear it to the Hakaan show (which was cancelled due to the collection's disappearance) and didn't want it to go to waste?

It's not the first time a pop star was called into question for wearing a red dress to an Obama fundraiser. Earlier this month, Jay-Z and Beyonce hosted a fundraiser for Obama in NYC where Queen Bey wore a red Oscar de la Renta number that very closely resembled an ODLR dress Ann Romney wore to the RNC.

So were either of them wrong to wear red? Sure, it's not the most obvious choice of color to wear to such an event, and one that a lot of people might try to avoid, but they both looked amazing; they aren't politiciains; they dropped $10,000 for the fundraiser and they obviously weren't trying to be subversive. So, we're fine with it.
