We might start seeing the face of convicted felon Chris Brown in fashion and beauty ads soon.
According to WWD, the controversial singer has signed a contract with Wilhelmina International. Brown will be part of Wilhelmina’s artist management division, where his agent will seek fashion and beauty endorsements.
WWD notes that Brown might be a “difficult sell” to “image-conscious advertisers” because of you know, the whole convicted felony assault thing. Um, yeah. I mean what kind of brand will want to use Brown, who so publicly abused then-girlfriend Rihanna, to rep its product?
But Wilhelmina isn’t worried. “Chris Brown is a…multifaceted artist with a unique take on style, and we are excited to translate and extend his brand,” Taylor Hendrich, director of Wilhelmina Men, told the trade.
Brown, who was in court earlier this month for a probation progress hearing said, “Art and style has always played a significant role in my life–it’s evolved with me throughout my career.”
While the singer seems to have an amnesic effect on the music industry, it remains to be seen whether the fashion world will embrace him. Wilhelmina, however, is betting it will.
