Coach's Classic Duffels Get the Anna Sui Treatment

Designing a line of limited edition duffels for Coach was an easy collaboration for Anna Sui to say yes to. "I remember my sister in law had an original Coach duffel and I just thought that was the coolest bag on earth," she told us at last night's launch event. "And I couldn't afford it at that point. So when this project came along I was so happy about it." Sui's directive from Coach creative director Reed Krakoff was pretty open ended: "Make [the Coach duffel] as 'Anna Sui' as possible" he told her.

Designing a line of limited edition duffels for Coach was an easy collaboration for Anna Sui to say yes to. "I remember my sister in law had an original Coach duffel and I just thought that was the coolest bag on earth," she told us at last night's launch event. "And I couldn't afford it at that point. So when this project came along I was so happy about it."

Sui's directive from Coach creative director Reed Krakoff was pretty open ended: "Make [the Coach duffel] as 'Anna Sui' as possible" he told her. That meant hand-cut leather dragon flies, charms, and Sui's signature 60s floral prints in the lining. (And for some precious symmetry, tiny cookies made to look like those same dragon flies were passed around the party.) Sui produced two duffels for Coach--one she described as "art nouveau," the other she described as a "hippy bag" with hand tooling.

"It was a dream job because they have all the facility to do anything that you ask for," Sui said. "It never happens like that...it's always a whole struggle to get anything made and here anything that we wanted they could do."

Take a look at the results. The large dragonfly duffel retails for $798 and the fleur de lis duffel rings it at $1000. If you want to add one to your holiday wish list, head over here.
