Last week, female model Casey Legler made headlines for being signed to the Ford men’s board. And now Saint Laurent Paris has released its first menswar campaign under new creative director Hedi Slimane and it stars Chanel favorite Saskia de Brauw.
It’s really not that much of a stretch. Hedi Slimane loves a bit of gender bending and Saskia’s look is pure androgyny–she even walked in Givenchy’s spring 2012 menswear show, according to the Telegraph.
While most men (read: those who aren’t skinny hipsters in Brooklyn, Paris, or Berlin) might not be able to squeeze into a Slimane for Saint Laurent suit, maybe it’s just incentive to slim down? Karl Lagerfeld famously shed the weight just so he could wear Slimane’s skinny suits for Dior Homme. And women wanted to wear Slimane’s pants for Dior Homme just as much as men did. Androgynous design is what Slimane does best. So, if you’re an impossibly chic skinny couple, buying Saint Laurent mens is just plain economical.
