The CFDA team has been pretty busy lately. Tuesday night was the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund event and last night, it feted a huge Sandy relief sale, which is open to the public today until 8pm. Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Diane von Furstenberg, Anna Wintour, Steven Kolb, and Tory Burch were in attendance.
Even before arranging the sale, the CFDA put together an online auction, through which you can bid on things like a week long stay at Diane von Furstenberg’s Harbor Island home, lunch with Gwyneth Paltrow and Mario Batali, and attending a fashion show with Anna Wintour and the Vogue editors.
Today’s sale came together pretty serendipitously. CFDA president Diane Von Furstenberg told Lynn Yaeger, “It was only last week—we got together and we were all saying, what are we going to do to help?” Tory Burch had already planned to host a private sale at the Metropolitan Pavilion, which she expanded to include other designers.
We stopped by this morning before the crowds descended (the line was about half an avenue block long, so not too bad) and while the sale is quite Tory Burch-heavy, there were also great pieces to be found by the likes of Thom Browne, Theory, Billy Reid, Carolina Herrera, DVF, Alice + Olivia and much more. Think Barneys Warehouse Sale but merchandised better and with more evening gowns. Everything is 50% off retail and 100% of proceeds benefit the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City and other relief organizations in the tri-state area.
It’s at the Metropolitan Pavilion at 125 West 18th St. and open until 8pm. Click through if you want to see a couple more pics from the sale.
