The Four Pins people were tipped off about Shopbop’s move to launch men’s by a source–but they also note a job listing posted by Shopbop for a Men’s DDM (Divisional Merchandise Manager) to back up their story.
The Amazon-owned online retailer, which began as a brick and mortar boutique in Madison, Wisconsin back in 2000, has seriously upped its game recently with a complete glossy site redesign–all the better to compete with Net-a-Porter. And now it looks like it’s looking to take on Mr. Porter too.
Update: WWD reported on the story this morning, speaking with a spokesperson for Shopbop. When asked about the brands that will be carried, she said, “There will be an appropriate mix of designer that works for this ‘cool’ guy.” The site will launch in the second half of 2013, and will offer free three day worldwide shipping, a fully translated Mandarin version, and personalized customer service. While it will be completely separate from the woman’s site, it will be led by the same team that is in charge of Shopbop women’s.
No word on a name yet, but it will have the same look and feel as the original Shopbop site.
