Casey Legler is an artist, a former Olympic swimmer, and, most recently, a model. It’s this last addition to her resume that garnered Legler a profile in Time. See, Legler is a woman modeling for the men’s division at Ford.
“As far as I know, there are no other women exclusively modeling as male models,” Legler says, though she doesn’t seem too concerned with making this a question of sexual identity or gender politics. In fact, she argues that she looks just as fierce in a dress and heels as in menswear. “[I]t would be a really beautiful thing if we could all just wear what we wanted, without it meaning something,” Legler says.
Legler got into modeling after her friend, photographer Cass Bird, cast her as a man in a spread in Muse magazine. Ford signed her to their male division just one day after receiving the photos.
“This is a unique little moment that fashion is allowing to have happen,” Casey says about the opportunity. We hope it lasts longer than a moment.
