Olympic Fever Sets In
Sports don’t always fall high on the radar of fashion people. But that changed during the 2012 Olympics. Even before the Games got started, there was much buzz–thanks to Vogue‘s july cover featuring none other than Ryan Lochte, Serena Williams and Hope Solo; and Stella McCartney and Ralph Lauren. They designed team outfits which managed to set off controversy in both of their respective countries.
When the games did finally get underway, gold-medal gymnast Gabby Douglas and track athlete Sanya Richards-Ross stole the everyone’s hearts–and became style stars in their own right, though not, sadly, without a few (hair) haters. The female athletes weren’t the only one making waves in the fashion industry: Ryan Lochte emerged from the games with a few gold medals, a potential clothing line (called ‘Jeah’), and loads of invitations to NYFW. He even became friends with Anna Wintour.
