A Glowy Kate Middleton Steps Out for the First Time Since Pregnancy Announcement

Earlier this week the royal family dropped a little bomb on the world, announcing that Kate Middleton is pregnant. As soon as her pregnancy was confirmed, the Duchess ended up being hospitalized for hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness requiring IV hydration and nutritional support. The press spent a few days figuring out exactly what hyperemesis gravidarum was, fretting about her health, and wondering whether she could be pregnant with twins (and then what those twins would be named), but now there’s good news: She was released from the hospital this morning.

Which means that now that we know she’s out of the woods, we can start analyzing her every outfit and institute an immediate “Royal Bump Watch” high alert.

For her first pictures as an official, confirmed pregnant lady, she and Prince William (who picked her up at the hospital) decided to go for a bit of their signature matchy-matchy with a lovely periwinkle/cerulean/navy blue theme, all set off with a perky bouquet of yellow flowers given to Kate by the nurses.

We are going to be completely cliché and unoriginal here, but the Duchess is really glowing. A bit of facial fullness actually gives her a softer look–even her eyeliner doesn’t look as harsh as it usually does. And those prenatal vitamins seem to already be working their magic on her hair. Can you imagine how extra-luxurious that mane is going to be?

As far as her fashion, Kate is a huge fan of an A-line coat, so it may be frustrating to try to analyze her bump over the next few weeks. There’s still a lot of winter–and thus, coat-wearing season–left to go. Still, we like that this coat does the traditional plaid British thing but also has some feminine ruffles for added interest.

We have no doubt that her fashion choices will be absolutely tasteful, though, and impeccably tailored. Sadly there probably won’t be a naked pregnancy shoot.
