Fashionista: Explain this photo for us.
Ann Yee: This was taken at my family’s Chinese restaurant when I was 8 years old. It was a tradition every year to get a photo taken in front of the tree.
What are you wearing?
Can we say plaid overload? I remember loving this little number and thinking it was extra special because it came with a matching beret. I would totally break out the capelet and beret if I still had it.
What was the most memorable gift you’ve ever received?
My first Discman.
Tell us about the worst gift you’ve ever received.
I’m pretty lucky because I’ve never really received any horrendous gifts, but one that was pretty bad were these lll-fitting jeans that were the worst wash ever. They were supposed to be high-waisted, but the rise was way too short. They also still had the sensor tag on them!
What’s the most memorable gift you’ve ever given?
It’s actually the most memorable because I wasn’t ever able to give it. I had bought a great stock pot for my mother, since she loves making soup. I wrapped it, and stuck in under the tree in the photo (bad idea). A customer ended up stealing it so I wasn’t ever able to give it to my mom. I was so upset! I think I must’ve been 7 or 8 years old. Needless to say, we never placed actual presents under the restaurant tree ever again.
Ever been kissed under the mistletoe?
Yes!
And what’s that one gift that keeps on giving?
Supportive family and friends.
