Michelle Smith: This photo is from Christmas morning, when I was 2 or 3. I was clearly a trendsetter before Princess Leia’s hairstyle was de rigueur!

What are you wearing?
I’m wearing a Polly Flinders classic smock dress. This is proof fashion is cyclical, as Peter Pan collars are back. All of the girls in our office are fighting over the Milly Jewel Trim sweater now and have to rotate which days they wear theirs.

What was the most memorable gift you’ve ever received?
Remember “Fashion Plates”?! That may have been how I got the design bug.

Tell us about the worst gift you’ve ever received.
I haven’t received any bad gifts per se, just boring ones. Are socks ever fun?

What’s the most memorable gift you’ve ever given?
I gave my husband, Andy, swing dance lessons one year, which turned out to be a gift for myself as well since it led to more nights out dancing, and lots of laughs. Win-win.

Ever been kissed under the mistletoe?
No! Bah-humbug!

And what’s that one gift that keeps on giving?
The look on my kids’ faces Christmas morning—nothing can beat the sheer joy of anticipation right before they open their gifts. It’s the sweetest thing.
