So we’re relieved to learn that Lagerfeld will collaborate with purveyors of plastic shoes, Melissa, on a line of Karl Lagerfeld-branded jellies.
Several designers have already lent their big names to the Brazil-based company, including Vivienne Westwood, Gareth Pugh and Jason Wu–none of whom quite have the star power of Lagerfeld, it seems. Paulo Pedó, Melissa’s chief executive officer, called the Lagerfeld deal “one of the most exciting collaborations the company has ever seen.” Pier Paolo Righi, CEO of the Karl Lagerfeld brand, said, “We are very excited about the partnership with Melissa who have been great in translating Karl’s inspirations and designs into truly ironic fun fashion products that many women in the world will happily wear.”
Lagerfeld will design capsule collections for four seasons, starting with fall 2013. Jellies for fall? Why not, if they’re Karl Lagerfeld? They’ll probably look great with your Chanel hula hoop beach bag.
