New Yorkers are often chastised for their rough-edged resilience. True to character, when Hurricane Sandy came a-calling and left all of downtown (aka where the cool kids live) without power, the city’s party monsters didn’t waste time scoping out a new, temporary clubhouse that boasted both electricity and cache. Enter The Carlyle Hotel’s Bemelman’s Bar on the Upper East Side that had already played host to multiple presentations by The Row before the lights went out in SoPo (South of Power). The glitterati congregated in the dimly lit location, with everyone from models to Derek Blasberg to Erin Fetherston stopping by.
