After Sandy hit, the fashion industry–which was pretty hard hit itself–banded together quickly to launch relief efforts. Vogue and the CFDA teamed up to launch the Fashion for Sandy Relief Initiative, which included an online auction (items up for bid included experiences like taking in a runway show with Anna Wintour, having tea with Grace Coddington, and a swim lesson with Ryan Lochte) and a designer sale.
Today the CFDA/Vogue released the results of its fundraising initiative, and we’d say it was quite a success: They brought in $1.7 million, all of which will be donated to the “Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City.”
“I want to thank the Council of Fashion Designers of America and Vogue for organizing the Fashion for Sandy Relief initiative and donating the proceeds to the Mayor’s Fund,” Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said in a release. “It’s through the dedication and contributions of people from all parts of our city, including the fashion industry, that we will rebuild and be stronger than ever.”
That’s a perfect sentiment as we head into the holiday season.
