Christopher Kane, the maestro of couture kitsch, has certainly concocted a delightful creature-feature for Pre-Fall 2013. No doubt Wednesday Addams and her clan were front-and-center on Kane’s inspiration board as the collection’s cold-weather hallmarks took on a gothically girly vibe.
Royal blue velvet kicked things off, as Kane explored his lexicon of tailored frocks, boxy jackets, and menswear-referenced suiting. This refinement found contrast in tattered raw edges and beastly snow leopard furs (so new in a steely grey cast after the seasons upon seasons of traditional golden versions we’ve seen previously). Kane continued the exploration of “winter florals” he began for Fall 2012, with rose jacquarded duchess and floral printed charmeuse silks. The gown length slip-dress he cut in the latter made for a fresh and youthful stand out.
