I’ve always been reluctant to buy practical winter things, like boots (or any boots that aren’t black booties), but when you live somewhere that has actual seasons (like NYC), they’re really a necessity. My ability to walk to work thanks to my apartment’s close proximity–something I usually brag about–is no longer a convenience when the average temperature is in the teens (like it’s been all week). Once your feet are frozen into a paralyzed state from wearing ballet flats, walking is pretty tough. Likewise, having numb fingers all day makes typing really tricky.
