H&M announced today that it is entering into a long-term partnership with 27-year-old Czech tennis star Tomas Berdych. Berdych, currently ranked sixth in the world, will not only wear H&M on and off the court, but will also work closely with the H&M design team on a line of tennis wear.
“I am very excited about this partnership,” said Berdych in a joint release. “This is H&M’s first foray into tennis and it is very flattering for me to be their first ambassador.”
Karl Johan-Persson, H&M CEO, is also excited about the partnership, the first in the tennis world for H&M. “Tomas is such an exciting player, and he also cares greatly about style,” he said of the tennis star.
There's no official release date for the collection. It follows a similar collaboration, launched last August, between Japanese retailer (and H&M competitor) Uniqlo and Novak Djokovic.
