Stella McCartney Pre-Fall 2013: Cheeky Chic

Few may recall, but back in the day, Stella McCartney's eponymous debut collection featured t-shirts emblazoned with the word "Bristols" (British slang for...well, here see for yourself). Fast forward to today, and the mother of four has moved on to decidedly more polished fare, as evidenced by the assortment she presented for Pre-Fall 2013.

It's official: Stella McCartney is all grown up.

Few may recall, but back in the day, Stella McCartney's eponymous debut collection featured t-shirts emblazoned with the word "Bristols" (British slang for...well, here see for yourself). A delightful study in elevated "cheeky chic", the collection nodded to a cuddly side of Swinging 60s London as plush knitwear and malty tones took center stage. Avian eclipsed equine, as eagles flew upon appliqued sweatshirts where McCartney's signature steeds once galloped. Echoing their boldness, awning-striped matched-sets in high-contrast hues and material-blocked maxi gowns were reminiscent of late American designer Rudi Gernreich, without falling the way of literal retro.

Fans of McCartney's jumpsuits were not ignored; she stitched up two versions with potential to answer all 24 hours of wardrobe requirements. A sporty day version featured jaunty, d-ring hardware details, while a strapless cocktail version's deep jewel-tones were realized in a silk radzimir with subtle sheen.
