If there's a formula for creating an ad campaign with shock value, then Philipp Plein has mastered it. Headline-making transgendered model Lea T? Check. Two dudes (who appear to be related to each other) making out? Check. A Delevingne? Check. Terry Richardson? Double check.
The controversial photog both shot and starred in the new campaign for Swiss label Philipp Plein (Richardson starred in the campaign last season, too, alongside Ed Westwick). The label is perhaps best known for signing on Lindsay Lohan before she'd even seen the clothes. Except now it may become known as the label that got twin brothers to make out with each other in its ad campaign.
A press release for the campaign goes so far as to create a new slogan for the campaign: “Terry Richardson and the gang.” The gang being Brazilian beauty Lea T, who opened and closed Plein's show in Milan, and British socialite/model Poppy Delevingne. The male models are referred to in the release as "two identical male twins, real toy boys playing their provocative and impertinent games." Their names aren't given and really, who even knows or cares who they are? Except, wait, they're making out pretty intensely in one of the campaign images. And no, we're pretty sure it's not photoshopped. Behind-the-scenes photos and a video (see below) show there were indeed two separate identical-looking men on set.
"I am happy that my creations will again be interpreted with the artistic inspiration of an undisputed genius of contemporary photography like Terry Richardson,” said Philipp Plein. "The fact that he wanted to shoot self-portraits together with Lea T and Poppy Delevingne in these new images for Spring Summer 2013 makes me even prouder of my work. I hope that our combined energy, both Terry's and mine, and our idea of beauty will be appreciated by many, if not by all."
