When Tom Ford's name popped up on the official London Fashion Week catwalk schedule, we had to wonder, "What does it all mean?" Well, it means he's doing a confirmed, honest-to-god, proper runway show--instead of his usual private, no-photos-allowed presentations--for the first time since he launched his eponymous womenswear line in 2010. Wheee!
The designer ackowledged that his business is big enough now that he needs to have a runway show to properly showcase it. "This is going to be for 500 to 1,000 people. Photographers, bloggers--a regular, real show," Ford told the Times (via Vogue UK. "I want to show in London because I now have 100 stores worldwide. The company has jumped and I can no longer service the stores by not showing. So I have to love it and embrace it."
Just to reiterate in case you missed it, he's inviting bloggers in all their Instagramming, tweeting glory. Hooray!
Ford also told The Times that he's interested in raising his kids in London, too. "I hope it works here, because my dream goal is to raise my children here," he said. "I'm only here 180 days [of the year], but I like the humor, the formality, the manners, the irreverence in England."
There's no question now about which show will be the biggest LFW draw. We're fully expecting the top models and the starriest front row. Plus a runway bow from Tom Ford? Swoon.
