There’s no question Alberta Ferretti knows her way around a red carpet dress: Her signature evening gowns have won her a cult following among the Hollywood set. And it’s no wonder given that her designs are the perfect combination of romance, sensuality and strength.
As is always the case with Ferretti, these dress-making skills were the center of her fall 2013 collection. The show opened with a series of black-and-white looks: floor-sweeping frocks belted at the waist with black ribbons, and short-and-sweet numbers in lace or velvet. But just when we thought we were in for an entirely monochromatic collection, came dark navys and subtle plaids on coats and skirt suits. Followed yellows, purples and reds.
Ferretti already has the evening and cocktail markets cornered, but this season she also made a case for her daywear: Short wool frocks and skirt suits in bold colors hugged the body without being the least bit clingy.
