A handful of Dannijo “girl crushes”–cool chicks that designer sisters Danielle and Jodie Snyder love and feature on their blog–came to pay their respects at the brand’s presentation yesterday at the Jane Hotel.
Among them was model and model rights champion Coco Rocha. She took time out from gleefully tweeting and Instagramming (the girl loves her social media) to tell us how she feels about the CFDA’s controversial partnership with Organic Avenue and the differences between her, Naomi Campbell, and Karolina Kurkova on new model reality TV show The Face.
I imagine you have to keep pretty healthy for Fashion Week. What is going to be your first, really indulgent meal after it’s over?
Oh, that does not matter. I just had a big omelet this morning, ham and cheese, with bread. I eat like that all day. You might be surprised, how much I eat. I’m not the type of model that saves it for after [fashion week]. I don’t think you should deprive yourself of anything. If you want a hamburger, go have a hamburger. It’s life.
Have you ever done a juice fast?
No. I could never do any of that. I tried to be vegetarian for a month. But after five days, I was shaking. I needed meat so badly. I won’t do that to my body. I don’t see the need to do it. If I feel like, “Today, I would like a salad,” that’s what I’ll do. I’m not one to be like, “I cannot eat that because it’s bad.”
What do you think of the CFDA’s health partnership with Organic Avenue?
I saw that. That’s a good start, but I also warn girls, don’t go on a juice fast right now. You need the energy to go out and get to your shows and castings. It’s great to get your vitamins and all that but, it doesn’t need to be your meal replacement.
Is that the type of advice we can expect to hear you give girls on The Face?
Yeah. I’m all about making sure you are safe and happy with yourself before you start pleasing anyone else.
How would you describe the difference between the type of advice you give versus Naomi and Karolina?
That’s what’s so funny. You might think there is only one “right” way of modeling. There isn’t. I do what I do, and Naomi does what she does, same as KK [Karolina Kurkova.] And you look back and go, “Why does that work?” It works, even if it’s just not what you do. We have three different models from three different generations that have three different approaches to modeling and it all works.
What’s the best free swag you’ve ever gotten?
I’ve gotten all sorts of things from people and it’s fantastic, from gowns to furs to shoes. Today, I got all excited. I got a free phone and a free tablet from two different people. I was like, I have finally made it!
