Tomoko Ogura, Barneys New York
Ogura is one of the few senior staffers left at Barneys from the pre-Mark Lee era. (She’s been working her way up the company’s corporate ladder for nearly 10 years.) But at just 30 years old, her eye is still fresh: Crucial in a time when department stores struggle to define themselves.
Just last night Ogura showed a group of digital editors Barneys’ spring offerings over dinner at Fred’s. Her eye for new talent (we were particulary smitten with a new line by Betina Ocampo, who is still at Parsons) is impressive. We also liked a new project called “exclusively ours denim” where Barneys commissioned its favorite denim brands (J Brand, Current/Elliott, Rag & Bone to name a few) to create designs.
