Marnie’s Not Functional Party Outfit
After deciding everything she owns is too “basic” (which is a fair assessment), Marnie goes…somewhere…and buys this outfit. It appears to be a gold crocodile bustier and matching skirt underneath a completely transparent plastic/vinyl skater dress. It looked like a costume.
We guess it’s another example of Marnie trying a little too hard and going a little too far. For a job interview it was a pink Ann Taylor-esque dress suit and for a party with “cool” art people it was this. Still, we feel like even Marnie wouldn’t be so out of touch as to think this was cool. We like that it’s not a complete transformation–the silhouette is still pretty simple and her hair is still straight and boring. When Marnie later takes it off and carries it to maneuver through the subway, it becomes clear that the outfit was also done for comedic purposes.
